Hi David,
I am a retired police detective with over twenty-five years of service. I have read all of your articles and have attentively listened to a your podcast on BiggerPockets. I was intrigued by a number of suggestion you made to those of us starting out in the industry (Podcast #257). Specifically, you spoke of brining “something of value” to establish working relationships in the real estate investment arena. It is this area that is challenging for me. As a former police officer, you know first hand the specific skill sets that are acquired though years of public service, most of which do not translate into real estate investing.
When I think in terms of offering “something of value” to someone of your status, I come up lacking. Sure, I think of the obvious; pride, honesty and integrity. But on a practical level, what would someone with my experice offer of value to someone like yourself? What are the necessary skills needed to draw the attention of anyone I wish to partner with? Yes, I am rookie in need of seasoned advised. Thank you in advance for your response.
Respectfully,
Mark Keyser
